1/9/2024 0 Comments Best master spell divinityWhat I found really surprising is that everyone in the group still considered my character “useless”. The campaign completed, and since my wizard was introduced, not a single character had died. My character was declared “useless”Ī couple months of playing and my character did not directly cause a single HP of damage to an enemy, nor did he use a single “save or die”. I still remember the DM asking me, “So what DO you do then?” When I explained I would be putting up walls, fogs, buffing, debuffing, etc. In the first combat, I was encouraged to use my fireball, and the group was quite confused when I told them that I didn’t have Fireball, lightning bolt or even magic missile. I had an idea how I could help the group without dominating the action, and I came back with a Wizard character. I felt really bad and retired the character at the end of the session and promised to build something less dominating. Nevertheless, the party sorcerer died in one of the fights. What he neglected to mention was that this group did not optimize their characters, so when I arrived with my Goliath charge-build, I overshadowed the rest of the fighter-types in the group entirely. He told me to build an optimized character. The group was playing a “killer” campaign and the party had been TPK’d and character individual deaths were rampant and he figured they could use another player. A player in a D&D group I belonged to invited me to join another group he ran with another group of friends. I’ve told this story before, but here it is again. Wizard is my favorite, but I really do.honest. Treantmonk himself plays other classes too. This guide is written from the point of view of a wizard, but not just any wizard, a snobbish bookworm, "I am the greatest" wizard. Will find me far less opinionated than you find the style of this guide. If you do, by all means let me know in the comments and we can have a discussion if you desire. I will be expressing it strongly, but yes, you are entitled to disagree. Also, this is by and large an opinion paper, so I will be expressing opinion regularly. Throughout this guide my tongue is planted squarely in my cheek, and yes, I can be a cheeky monkey. Update: 2020: Guide updated by TomFinn to match videosĪ note about style: First off should be my note about style, hopefully before all the players of other classes out there get all upset. I have an Inquisitor in vanilla and Death Punch is a really fantastic attack.Treantmonk’s Guide to Wizards, Being a god (5th edition) Well, as for the last line, by the time you can learn Death Punch, an Inquisitor should have enough other tools to make it very useful. How many points that means into the EE, I'm not sure yet. An Inquisitor doesn't want or need to max out all their magic skills, but if you're really going for the close-range spell build, you'll want to invest somewhat into all the magic schools. Originally posted by Mr.Pessimism:you should only invest in wands if your a inquisitor. although death punch does a lot of damage it requires you to get too close for a cloth wearing full mage should ever be. one note though you may or may not want to take witch craft to 5 its master level skills are not as strong as some of the others. which will have your foes standing around doing nothing. Witch craft is all about status ailments like blind. comes with status cleansing magic and by far the most used magic in the game. Water is the healer tree which boast some pretty good cc too. While pyromancy is all about damage and puting down fire on the ground, match with geomancy is pretty much the best magic combo for it. geomancy is good for summons and buffs for your characters also.Īir magic on the other hand is good for two reasons cc and wiping the field of ground elements. Some magics are better than others with that being said the first part of the game poison is near useless but in the second act makes a come back. they have spells that can make you immune to status effects cure status effects and absorb damage from elements. also its not all about damage mages are a utility class offering cc/defense. a full mage class isn't constant damage till higher levels they are bursty in the beginning. if you try to master everything you will severely hurt your character.įor a full mage i would save every point to put into the magics i wanted to use till they are maxed then branch off into other areas.įrankly if i were you i would think about where i was going before trying to get there. skill points are extremely important these days. You should only invest in wands if your a inquisitor.Īs for magic i would stick to two main magics if you want every spell. as for wands you can use a wand with no points in the actual skill. you could get away with 4 but you could only learn one master spell. Full mages who wish to have all the spells need 5 in their magics now.
